Mr. Chan, giving the gift of holiday cheer (probably all year round)

This is Mr Chan. Mr Chan goes above and beyond his job as a Grab driver and is the pinnacle of a human being.

This story was shared by well-wishing netizen Jeremy Koh.

“Wasn’t feeling too well this morning thus I decided to GRAB to work. Mr. Chan driving SMH5945U came on time and waited for me as I came down from my block to the designated waiting spot.

Upon entering the car, he greeted me politely, heard me coughing and offered me a bottled mineral water (free of charge) and also asked politely if I needed to charge my handphone (Android or Apple also can).

He then asked for a preferred route, reconfirmed the route, before setting off. When we reached an ERP gantry, he politely mentioned to me of the surcharge that will be added to the ride. When we have reached our destination, he then subtly reminded me to check my belongings and valuables before alighting, and wished me a Merry Christmas with a broad smile.

This service was one of the best (if not the best) I have encountered with a private-hire driver.

What happened next was mind blowing.

At around 10:25am, I received a phone call from an unknown number. I rejected it as I was busy replying to an email. 2 minutes later I received another call from the same number which I rejected again. Another 5 minutes later a 3rd call came in which I rejected again.

At around 10:37am, as I have settled some stuff, I decided to call back to check on the missed call.

Mr. Chan greeted me politely, double checked my identity before sharing that I have left my wallet in his car! Omg… I actually dropped my wallet without realising it until that moment! How did it even happen after someone had reminded me to check for my valuables before alighting?!!!

Mr. Chan being the nicest man on this planet offered to return me my wallet by making a detour (he was in Toa Payoh and was headed to Bukit Panjang) and drove all the way to my office at Suntec.

When he arrived, I was being greeted with the broadest smile and he gently reminded me to check if everything is in order. I am greatly indebted to this kind soul!

Thank you Mr. Chan!!! May the Lord be with you always and a Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!”

We at ROADS.sg also want to give a big shout out to all the PHV drivers and Taxi drivers who do not get their 15-seconds of fame, but definitely deserve it. Merry Christmas everyone!
