Town councils are putting barriers along pathways and walkways that could hamper people with disabilities that uses a wheelchair.

The above steel barrier could be found at a McPherson estate walkway. This is along a slope ramp and is unfriendly for anyone on a wheelchair who wishes to pass through.

Railings were erected at Marsiling Drive to prevent motorcyclists from using the pedestrian footpath. However, they are an added obstacle to wheelchair users and those using mobility aids.

Town councils who manages their own estates did these for the good of pedestrians, but they should also consider wheelchair users and their care givers.
Shouldn’t placing speed humps at short intervals be a better alternative than just blocking off passageways?
There are more ways to solve such problems and we hope senseless permanent barriers will not be a common sight in our own estates without considering the community as a whole.
